Course description:
As one would expect in an introductory text, the emphasis is on the parts of speech – in particular, nouns, pronouns, and adjectives. This Level One book begins with an excellent introduction: why study Latin; the various ways to learn a foreign language; and the various schools of Latin pronunciation. The text then moves on to nouns: the concepts of Latin nouns (case, number, gender, stems, and inflections), and an in-depth study of the five declensions. After nouns, pronouns and adjectives are covered in much the same systematic way.In this way, the student is well-prepared to move onto Year Two, which covers verbs (conjugations, mood, voice, and tense) as well as adverbs, participles and much more.
This Level One book is a new work, with passages and examples pertaining to the Traditional Catholic Faith, good literature, and interesting topics. It also contains many sentence diagramming examples, which are critical for proper thinking and analysis. As with all of our courses, we can grade all the coursework for you - a huge timesaver with a subject like Latin, in which the student must complete many exercises in order to get a grip on the language.
